At the end of 2013 China was home to 194 million people older than 60 years and the figure
could exceed 300 million by 2015. It is estimated that China needs 10 million nursing beds but currently only has 5 million. Vanke, the nation’s biggest property developer, is shifting its future development focus to homes for owner occupiers rather than investors, especially looking at the development of nursing homes for the elderly.
